Seoraksan

Seoraksan

Let’s continue our journey through the mountains of South Korea. This spectacular full-day hike in Seoraksan National Park (설악산국립공원) is one of the most diverse and rewarding trails in the country. The route winds through dramatic granite formations, dense forest paths, and exposed ridgelines, passing scenic shelters and waterfalls along the way. Starting near Seorak Waterfall (설악폭포), the trail climbs steadily into the heart of the mountains, leading to Jungcheong Shelter (중청대피소) — one of the highest shelters in the park. From there, hikers often detour to nearby peaks or continue along the ridge, descending toward Huiungak Shelter (희운각대피소). This section features views of jagged granite spires, including the striking Ulsanbawi (울산바위) and the legendary Dinosaur Ridge (공룡능선) — a famous ridgeline that challenges even seasoned hikers. As the trail continues, it passes by Yangpok Shelter (양폭대피소) and enters a beautiful river gorge lined with multiple waterfalls, quiet pools, and sheer cliff faces. This final stretch is both peaceful and visually stunning, offering a complete contrast to the rugged alpine terrain earlier in the day. Expect a long, physically demanding hike with elevation gain, exposed ridges, and rocky paths. However, it’s also one of the most scenic and diverse routes in Seoraksan, offering a mix of forest, rock, water, and high views. The trail is well-marked and includes several shelters for resting or overnight options if needed. Whether you're chasing summit views or just want to explore Korea’s most iconic national park, this route through Seoraksan showcases everything the mountains have to offer — from waterfalls to ridgelines to river canyons.
